What You'll Learn

Week by Week Overview

Week 1 – Compassion & Mindfulness in Parenting
Learn what compassion looks like in everyday parenting and practice simple mindfulness tools to help you pause and stay present with your child.

Week 2 – Self-Compassion for Parents
Offer yourself the same kindness you give your child so you can meet challenges with more steadiness and care.

Week 3 – Understanding Triggers & Responding Wisely
Identify what sets you off, notice early body/mind cues, and practice pausing so you can respond rather than react.

Week 4 – Common Humanity & Values
Remember all parents struggle, and reconnect with the values that guide how you want to show up for your child.

Week 5 – Working With Blocks & Setting Healthy Boundaries
Explore what gets in the way of compassion and learn how healthy boundaries support both you and your child.

Week 6 – Integration: Compassion in Real-Life Parenting
Bring the tools together and apply compassionate, mindful practices to real-life parenting moments—messy, imperfect, and human.

* Please note that this is not psychotherapy and cannot replace it.

Devaki's compassion group is easily one of the best things I have done for myself as a parent. Devaki is an artist, a therapist and a compassion scholar, and in this course, she weaves those fields of expertise together in a masterful way, week by week. One of my favorite parts was being with other parents in this context, which allows for "aha" moments and reflections as well as a very real sense that we are not alone. Devaki's authenticity, compassion, humility and humor are her super powers. I deeply admire her as a person, facilitator and educator, and I have returned to this material for guidance in both my personal and my professional life. Five stars, highly recommend!

Devaki is an inspirational, humble soul whose work comes from the heart. Her course, guidance and meditations will enrich your existence and help bring new qualities into your daily being on this planet with those you love and care for. I have personally found them to be restorative in the moment and afterwards setting me up for the day to come.

FAQ

Is the program in-person or online?
For now, the course is offered online on Zoom.

Do the sessions build on each other? Do I need to attend all?
Each session builds on the previous one. Attending as consistently as possible helps you get the most out of the experience. If you need to miss a week, materials will be shared so you can stay connected.

Will sessions be recorded?
Online sessions may be recorded so that participants who miss a week can review the content. Recordings are available for a limited time and are not shared outside the group.

How is this course different ?
NYNT centers your inner experience as a parent. Together we explore compassion, triggers, self-kindness, mindfulness, and repair in a supportive, practical way.

What does the program offer?
- Real-time compassion practices
- Embodiment and expressive arts
- Simple, accessible neuroscience
- Genuine community connection
- A focus on your inner world—not perfection

This isn’t a course about doing it “right.”
It’s a space for being human, with support.

What is the time commitment?
Each session is 90 minutes, once a week, for 6 weeks.
Between sessions, you will receive optional practices that take only a few minutes and fit naturally into daily parenting routines, along with optional reading to support your learning.

What should I bring?
For online groups, you may want to have:
Paper or a journal
A grounding object or anything that brings comfort
Water, tea, or anything that helps you settle
A quiet and comfortable space if possible
And, also there is no need for anything special. Come as you are.

What if I need to miss a session?
No problem. Parenting is unpredictable.
If you need to miss a week, you will receive any shared handouts from that session, and a recording will be available for a limited time so you can stay connected with the group.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?
We do not do any refunds.

Is this therapy?
No — this is not therapy.
It is a supportive, educational group experience with practices drawn from research, contemplative traditions, and lived parenting wisdom.

Will I have homework?
Not in the traditional sense.
You’ll receive small, optional invitations for practice. These practices are designed to fit into real family life.
You’ll also receive worksheets and simple tools to help integrate the practices if you want to go deeper.

Do I need any background in mindfulness or meditation?
Not at all.
Everything is introduced gently, accessibly, and with no expectation of familiarity.
You can’t do it “wrong.” Trying is the practice.

Will I have to share personal stories?
Sharing is always optional.
You are welcome to participate silently or verbally — whatever supports your sense of safety and connection.

Is confidentiality required?
Yes. At our first session, we create simple group agreements together, which include confidentiality, care, and respect for each person’s pace. These agreements help us create a supportive, non judgmental space for real and imperfect parenting moments.

Do I need to have my camera on?
Cameras are encouraged — not required — because connection helps deepen the experience.
But you are always free to turn your camera off as needed.

What if I want to continue after the 6 weeks?
You can participate in:
follow-up circles
continued community meetups
deeper workshops
or the extended NYNT curriculum as it evolves

You’ll be notified whenever new offerings open.
